PM Oli Urges National Commitment to Make Student Enrollment Campaign a Success

प्रधानमन्त्री केपी शर्मा ओली
Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called upon all stakeholders, parents, and communities to ensure the success of Nepal’s Student Enrollment Campaign for the academic session 2082, which officially began today.
In a message of best wishes on the occasion, PM Oli highlighted that achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 hinges on inclusive and quality education—from basic to technical and higher levels. He emphasized transforming all educational institutions into centers of excellence to support the national aspiration of “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali.”
“Education is one of the key pillars of prosperity,” the Prime Minister said, stressing the need to produce quality and employment-oriented human resources.
He noted that although Nepal has made strides in reducing absolute poverty, around 20 percent of the population still lives below the poverty line. “We cannot eliminate poverty without education. Leaving our children out of school is no longer acceptable,” he said.
PM Oli acknowledged improvements in gross enrollment rates at the basic level but emphasized the need for stronger efforts to improve student retention. He called for education to be modernized by integrating local knowledge, skills, and technology, and for job creation within the country to support long-term engagement.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to increasing the share of the budget in the education sector and to pass the School Education Bill 2081 after inclusive discussions. He also emphasized the importance of intergovernmental cooperation and investment partnerships among federal, provincial, and local governments to achieve the goal of free and compulsory basic and secondary education.
“Investments in education must be used effectively and creatively to produce ethical, responsible citizens,” he said, adding, “Knowledge must be transformed into practice for the betterment of the individual, family, nation, and global community.”
Touching upon the plight of children on the streets and orphans, PM Oli stressed that such conditions are unacceptable in a fertile and resource-rich country like Nepal. He expressed hope that the current enrollment campaign would complement government initiatives to end such social issues.
