Jumla: Himali Samvad 2082 Jumla officially starts today in Khalanga Bazaar. The three-day dialogue addresses pressing environmental, social, and developmental issues in Nepal’s Himalayan region. The event runs until Wednesday and prepares for the upcoming Sagarmatha Dialogue, raising awareness from local communities to international stakeholders.
Addressing Environmental Challenges in the Himalayas
At a press conference, Govinda Bahadur Shahi, head of the organizing committee and Executive Director of KIRDARC Nepal (Karnali Integrated Rural Development and Research Center), emphasized the dialogue’s focus on challenges faced by Himalayan communities. Participants will discuss climate change, glacier melting, biodiversity loss, and lifestyle disruptions in high-altitude areas. The goal is to generate actionable insights for policymakers and local leaders.
Inclusive Participation from Karnali Province
Youth representatives from eight of ten districts of Karnali Province are participating. Moreover, the event prioritizes the inclusion of children, marginalized groups, and women, ensuring diverse perspectives. Around 150 participants are expected. They include environmental experts, policymakers, media personnel, civil society members, and representatives from national and international NGOs, along with officials from local governments and development partners.
Promoting Sustainable Solutions and Policy Action
The dialogue also proposes practical solutions for socio-environmental challenges. Experts will share research findings, best practices, and policy recommendations. These insights will guide planning for the Sagarmatha Dialogue and foster collaboration among stakeholders. Additionally, the event aims to strengthen partnerships between local authorities, NGOs, and international organizations working in the Himalayan region.
