Indian Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Arrives in Nepal for Two-Day Visit

Kathmandu: Khattar visits Nepal today for a two-day official visit, aimed at deepening energy cooperation and reviewing major infrastructure projects. India’s Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport at the invitation of Nepal’s Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka.
The invitation was extended during Minister Khadka’s visit to India on Magh 30, 2081 (February 13, 2025). Khattar’s visit marks a significant step in strengthening Indo-Nepal energy partnerships and cross-border infrastructure collaboration.
Khattar Visits Nepal to Inaugurate Koshi Corridor Projects
During his stay, Khattar visits Nepal to jointly inaugurate multiple projects under the Koshi Corridor. These include the 220 kV Inaruwa–Basantapur–Baneshwar–Tumlingtar transmission line and the Tumlingtar (220/133/33 kV), Baneshwar (220/33 kV), and Basantapur (220/133/33 kV) substations. The inauguration will take place at the Tumlingtar substation in Sankhuwasabha, which is expected to enhance electricity distribution in eastern Nepal and promote cross-border power trade.
Khattar Visits Nepal to Inspect Arun-III Hydropower
Khattar will also visit the Arun-III Hydropower Project’s powerhouse and dam site. This Indian-funded initiative is a major infrastructure project that supports Nepal’s energy development. In addition, both countries will sign an agreement to establish a joint transmission line construction company, further strengthening bilateral energy cooperation.
Cultural and Political Engagements
On April 23 (Baisakh 10), Khattar will travel to Muktinath Temple in Mustang for a cultural visit. Later, he will meet Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Deputy Prime Minister & Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh. The Indian Minister will conclude his visit with an evening stop at Pashupatinath Temple, before returning to India the same night.
This official visit highlights the growing collaboration between India and Nepal in energy infrastructure, showcasing the commitment of both countries to advance bilateral relations in the sector.
