PM Oli Says He Will Resign in 14 Months, Paves Way for Deuba

Comments made amid coalition change rumors; Deuba returns from Thailand, backs full-term government

Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said he will resign from his post after 14 months, indicating that Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba will succeed him.

Speaking to journalists outside the Federal Parliament building on Friday, PM Oli responded to growing speculation about changes in the ruling coalition. “I will resign after 14 months. Sher Bahadur ji will become the Prime Minister,” Oli said with a smile.

His statement comes as talks swirl over possible shifts in the coalition dynamics, especially with the return of NC President Deuba from his Thailand trip.

Pushpa Kamal Dahal, chair of CPN (Maoist Centre), reportedly told his party’s parliamentary meeting that coalition discussions would resume once Deuba returned from Thailand. However, speaking to the media after his arrival on Friday, Deuba downplayed such rumors, stating that the current coalition government would complete its full term.
