Prachanda Accuses Government of Failing to Address Teachers’ Demands

Says authorities are disrespecting teachers despite court order

Kathmandu: Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has accused the government of being unprepared to address the demands of protesting teachers.

Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony for newly elected members of the Press Center Nepal, Prachanda criticized the government’s approach towards the teachers’ movement.

He alleged that the government is “shamelessly humiliating” the teachers.
“The government is trying to humiliate teachers without any shame. The agreements made with the teachers must be honored by enacting the necessary laws, and it must be done swiftly,” Prachanda stated. “The government must also work to create an environment for teachers to return to schools. Even the court has issued an order, but the government does not seem willing to comply.”

Prachanda emphasized that his party and other stakeholders must take responsibility to help resolve the political crisis stemming from the teachers’ protests.

“We must also fulfill our responsibility to ease the country’s difficult political situation through the streets, the Parliament, and other fronts,” he said.
