Ganesh Parajuli Alleges Corruption in Pokhara International Airport Construction

Kathmandu – Ganesh Parajuli, a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has revealed allegations of corruption in the construction of the Pokhara International Airport.

Corruption Alleged in Pokhara Airport Project

Speaking in the House of Representatives on Sunday, Parajuli recalled that the agreement for the construction of Pokhara International Airport was made in 2014 under Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s leadership. The airport was inaugurated in 2022, but Parajuli pointed out that it still hasn’t been fully operational except for test flights.

Allegations of 10 Billion Rupees in Corruption

Parajuli claimed that over 10 billion rupees were misappropriated during the construction of the airport, which was funded by a loan agreement of 22 billion rupees. The Public Accounts Committee’s sub-committee had revealed these facts. He questioned whether the government has the courage to take action against those involved in the corruption.

Call for Action Against Corrupt Officials

The MP demanded accountability for those involved in the irregularities. He emphasized that while the airport’s runway could not be built to the required length, corruption in the project has been exposed in international media.

Parajuli also questioned the Prime Minister’s commitment to combating corruption, referencing his earlier promises to prevent corruption in Nepal.

Parajuli Suggests Formation of Judicial Investigation Committee

To address the issue, Parajuli suggested the formation of a high-level, effective judicial investigation committee to probe the corruption and irregularities involved in the airport project. He demanded that all individuals linked to the corruption be held legally accountable.
