52% SEE fail rate Nepal: PM Oli criticizes teacher apathy in Kathmandu

PM Oli addressing teachers and students

Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has sharply criticized educators following the shocking 52% SEE fail rate Nepal this year. Speaking at a program for National Information and Communication Technology Day in Kathmandu, Oli said teachers’ apathy toward this high failure rate is alarming.

He recounted a teacher on social media who dismissed the results, saying a 48% pass rate was “good enough.” Oli responded, “That mentality is damaging. These are our nation’s bright minds, and their futures are being written off as early as grade 10.”

A Symptom of Deeper Problems

Oli, also chairman of the CPN-UML, emphasized that the 52% SEE fail rate Nepal does not just reflect student performance. It exposes systemic issues in teaching quality, student guidance, and intervention strategies. He added that students from remote regions face additional challenges and deserve proper counseling and support.

Nepali Youth Are Capable, But Unsupported

“Nepali students are talented,” Oli said. “They perform well despite tough conditions. What they lack is opportunity, not intelligence.” He urged schools and teachers to provide more mentorship, targeted guidance, and practical support to address learning gaps.

Experts recommend reforms such as upgrading teacher training, improving digital learning resources, and strengthening student counseling programs (Ministry of Education) to prevent future failures.
