RSP Ready to Support Government if Stability at Risk, Says MP Biraj Bhakta Shrestha

Shrestha says removing the current government could push the country into uncertainty, despite its failures.

RSP support for government – Biraj Bhakta Shrestha in Parliament

Kathmandu: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Deputy Parliamentary Leader Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has said that his party is prepared to extend RSP support for government if its fall risks plunging the country into political uncertainty.

RSP’s Position on Current Coalition

Speaking in the House of Representatives, Shrestha explained that while the RSP has significant ideological differences with the two largest parties, stability must come first. He pointed out that these parties—despite being on opposite ends of ideology—have joined forces to run the government.

“Ideologically and practically, these two parties should be on different sides. But now they’re together. Many of our colleagues believe this government should not fall. I also say the same—if efforts are made to topple it, RSP is ready to support it. Because if it falls, where does the country go from there?” Shrestha said.

Criticism of the Ruling Alliance

The RSP leader argued that such cross-party cooperation usually happens only during a crisis. However, this coalition was formed under normal conditions—yet still failed to deliver results.

“They removed us from government in less than three months. Now it’s been almost 300 days, and they still haven’t delivered. Why?” he questioned, criticizing the ruling alliance for poor governance.

Shrestha also raised concerns about the recently announced policy and programme for FY 2082/83, particularly accusing the government of neglecting cultural heritage—an essential aspect of Nepal’s identity.

Looking Ahead

The debate over governance and political stability remains crucial as Nepal prepares for its next fiscal policies. The RSP has positioned itself as a balancing force, signaling willingness to act in the national interest.
