Civil Servants’ Union Intensifies Pressure on Parliamentary Committee

Nepal Sarkar

Kathmandu: Nepal’s civil servant trade unions have continued their campaign to pressure the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee for the prompt enactment of the long-delayed Federal Civil Service Act.

Ahead of today’s committee meeting at Singha Durbar, members of the Joint Trade Union Coordination Committee staged a sit-in protest outside the meeting hall. This is not their first such demonstration; union leaders have made regular appearances to voice demands on days the committee convenes.

The unions have announced an escalation of protests, including the formation of a mobilization committee on Wednesday (Baisakh 10) and a mass gathering in front of the Parliament Secretariat on Friday (Baisakh 12).

Their demands are rooted in previous agreements, court verdicts, and commitments, calling for the immediate issuance of the Federal Civil Service Act, which has been pending since the federal restructuring of the country.
