RSP Urges Govt to Prioritize Education, Jobs, Development in Upcoming Budget

Acting Chair DP Aryal calls for balanced, long-term, and practical budget strategy in Parliament

Kathmandu: Rastriya Swatantra Party’s (RSP) Acting Chairperson and House of Representatives member DP Aryal on Friday advised the government to base the upcoming national budget on five major pillars: education, healthcare, employment generation, infrastructure development, and good governance.

Speaking during the first session of the budget session in the House of Representatives, Aryal stressed the importance of public trust and effective service delivery.

“The highest portion of the budget is spent on education and health. Meanwhile, employment creation, development works, and governance earn the most public attention,” Aryal said. “The government should structure the budget around these five priorities.”

Aryal also emphasized the need to address issues like productivity growth, agricultural modernization, industrial promotion, social justice, and inclusivity through the policies and programs under the upcoming budget.

He criticized the misuse of budget allocation, highlighting ongoing practices such as allocating funds based on political influence rather than need, and disproportionately funding projects in areas of powerful leaders.

“The government must put an end to unhealthy practices like distributing budgets based on access rather than necessity,” Aryal added. “Budgeting for projects already under local and provincial governments’ jurisdiction, and spreading money across non-productive sectors just to satisfy party loyalists must stop.”

Aryal called for balanced, realistic, and reform-oriented policies. He also advocated for reforms in the taxation system, reduction of non-essential expenses, and investment of public debt into productive sectors.

“We urge the government to adopt balanced, practical, and long-term reforms. Revenue growth must come with better taxation policies, and expenditures must be managed more wisely,” he concluded.
