Ministers Hold Urgent Meeting to Address Demands of Agitating Teachers

Kathmandu: Amid growing disruptions in Nepal’s student enrollment campaign and the potential impact on the upcoming Grade 12 examinations, key ministers of the government have convened for an urgent meeting to address the ongoing protests by teachers.

Teachers, who have been demonstrating in Kathmandu, are demanding the enactment of the long-awaited School Education Act. Their continued absence from schools has started to hamper student admissions, prompting the government to take immediate action.

The meeting is being held at the Ministry of Finance in Singha Durbar and includes Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and Education Minister Bidya Bhattarai.

According to officials, the discussion is focused on identifying what measures can be taken immediately at the cabinet or ministerial level to address teachers’ demands, especially in the absence of an active parliament session. The government is now exploring interim decisions to resolve the situation and bring teachers back to classrooms.

Teachers across the country have been agitating for better service conditions and legislative clarity, and their prolonged protest is now causing serious concern for the school system. — RSS
