Deuba Calls NC Central Committee Meeting Amid Growing Dissent Over Coalition Government

Kathmandu: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has called a meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC) amid increasing dissatisfaction within the party over its alliance with the CPN-UML-led coalition government.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 30 (Baisakh 17) at the NC central office in Sanepa, as announced by NC Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel through an official notice issued on Tuesday. All central office bearers, members, and invited members have been urged to attend.
The call for the meeting comes at a time when internal criticism of the party’s role in the sluggish government has been intensifying. Senior leaders including Dr. Shekhar Koirala and General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa have publicly slammed the government, labeling its performance as “turtle-paced” and ineffective.
Interestingly, the announcement follows Deuba’s meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday. There is growing speculation that Deuba is preparing to lead the government himself within the next year under the current coalition arrangement.
Meanwhile, the opposition CPN (Maoist Centre) has declared the current government a failure and has expressed its support for a new government under NC’s leadership. Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has hinted at possible changes in the ruling coalition in the near future.
The upcoming CWC meeting is expected to formally review the party’s position in the current coalition, assess the performance of the government, and deliberate on the future of its collaboration with the UML.
