‘Himali Samvad 2082’ Kicks Off in Jumla Ahead of Sagarmatha Dialogue

Jumla: All preparations for the Himali Samvad 2082 have been completed in Khalanga Bazaar, Jumla, where the three-day dialogue begins today (Monday) and will run until Wednesday. The event is organized as part of the lead-up to the upcoming Sagarmatha Dialogue, focusing on raising local to international awareness of pressing issues in Nepal’s Himalayan region.
Speaking at a press conference in Jumla, Govinda Bahadur Shahi, head of the organizing committee and Executive Director of KIRDARC Nepal (Karnali Integrated Rural Development and Research Center), stated that the dialogue aims to spotlight the challenges faced by Himalayan communities at local, provincial, federal, and international levels.
Youth representatives from eight out of ten districts of Karnali Province are participating, with special inclusion of children, marginalized groups, and women. The dialogue is a response to the growing environmental instability caused by climate change—including melting glaciers, biodiversity loss, and lifestyle disruption in high-altitude areas.
Participants include environmental experts, policymakers, media, civil society representatives, and members of both national and international NGOs. Around 150 people are expected to take part in the event, including representatives from local governments, federal and provincial agencies, the UN, and development partners. –RSS
