Indian Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Arrives in Nepal for Two-Day Visit

Kathmandu: India’s Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, is arriving in Nepal today for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Nepal’s Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka.

The invitation was extended by Minister Khadka during his visit to India on Magh 30, 2081 (February 13, 2025). Minister Khattar’s visit marks another important chapter in the growing Nepal-India energy cooperation.

During the visit, Khattar and Minister Khadka will jointly inaugurate multiple cross-border infrastructure projects supported by the Government of India. These include the 220 kV Inaruwa–Basantapur–Baneshwar–Tumlingtar transmission line under the Koshi Corridor, along with the Tumlingtar (220/133/33 kV), Baneshwar (220/33 kV), and Basantapur (220/133/33 kV) substations. The inauguration will take place at the Tumlingtar substation in Sankhuwasabha.

Khattar is also scheduled to visit the Arun-III Hydropower Project’s powerhouse and dam site, a major Indian-funded initiative. Additionally, both countries will sign an agreement to establish a joint transmission line construction company.

On April 23 (Baisakh 10), the Indian Minister is scheduled to visit Muktinath Temple in Mustang, followed by courtesy meetings with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Deputy Prime Minister & Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh.

He will conclude his visit with an evening visit to the Pashupatinath Temple, before returning to India the same night.
