Indian Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Arrives in Nepal, to Inaugurate Key Energy Projects

Kathmandu: Khattar visits Nepal today for a two-day official trip. The visit focuses on strengthening energy cooperation and reviewing key infrastructure projects. India’s Minister for Power, Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, was warmly received at Tribhuvan International Airport by officials from Nepal’s Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation. Representatives from the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu also welcomed him.

Khattar Visits Nepal to Inaugurate Koshi Corridor

During his stay, Khattar visits Nepal to inaugurate the 220 kV Koshi Corridor transmission line project, built with Indian assistance. The project includes the Inaruwa–Basantapur–Baneshwar–Tumlingtar 220 kV transmission line and substations at Tumlingtar, Baneshwar, and Basantapur in Sankhuwasabha district. This project will improve electricity distribution in eastern Nepal. It will also support cross-border power trade.

Khattar Visits Nepal to Inspect Arun-III Hydropower

In addition, Khattar visited the Arun-III Hydropower Project powerhouse and dam site. This is one of the largest Indian-funded infrastructure initiatives in Nepal. During the visit, the two countries will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The MoU will establish a joint transmission line construction company, further strengthening Indo-Nepal energy collaboration.

Cultural and Political Engagements

On April 23 (Baisakh 10), Khattar will travel to Muktinath in Mustang for a cultural program. Later, he will pay courtesy calls on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Deputy Prime Minister & Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh. He will conclude his visit with an evening stop at Pashupatinath Temple before returning to India.

This visit highlights India’s continued support for Nepal’s energy infrastructure. It also underscores the growing bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
