Kathmandu, Sept 19: Nepal’s top leadership has strongly condemned the Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir, that killed at least 27 people, including confirmed Nepali victim Sudip Neupane from Butwal. This tragedy has drawn strong responses from President Paudel, PM KP Sharma Oli, and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, who called the act “barbaric” and reaffirmed Nepal’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism.

President Paudel: “Such Violence Is Highly Condemnable”

In a statement on X, President Ramchandra Paudel expressed grief:

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of innocent lives in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. Such heinous acts targeting civilians are highly condemnable and must be denounced in the strongest terms.”

He extended condolences to victims’ families and wished for the injured’s recovery.

PM Oli: “Nepal Stands with India Against Terrorism”

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli echoed similar sentiments:

“Deep condolences to the victims of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Nepal stands firmly with India and strongly condemns all forms of terrorism.”

He also confirmed that Nepal is verifying details of other possible Nepali victims.

Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba Confirms Nepali Casualty

On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba confirmed the death of Sudip Neupane, a resident of Butwal-11, Rupandehi. Neupane was visiting Pahalgam with his mother, who was also injured.

“I am deeply saddened by the death of Sudip Neupane in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family and wish a speedy recovery to his injured mother.”

Nepal’s Foreign Ministry Reiterates Zero-Tolerance on Terrorism

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of Nepal issued a separate statement condemning the Nepal Pahalgam attack as a “barbaric assault on innocent tourists.” It reaffirmed Nepal’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, emphasizing:

“Such heinous acts can never be justified under any circumstances.”

Details of the Pahalgam Attack

Indian media reported that 27 people were killed, including tourists from Nepal, the UAE, and several Indian states. The attack occurred at Baisaran, near Pahalgam, also known as Mini Switzerland.

The attackers allegedly targeted tourists by name, firing at close range. So far, Sudip Neupane’s death has been confirmed, while another possible Nepali victim with the surname Adhikari is under verification.

India on High Alert After Deadliest Attack Since Pulwama

The Pahalgam attack is the deadliest in Jammu & Kashmir since Pulwama (2019), which killed 40 Indian soldiers. Following the attack, India raised its terror alert level, especially in Delhi and Mumbai.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on an official trip to Saudi Arabia, cut his visit short and is returning to India, according to Indian Express.
