India Blocks Pakistan Government’s X Account Following Pahalgam Terror Attack
Tensions escalate as India suspends Indus Waters Treaty and expels top Pakistani diplomats

Kathmandu: India has blocked the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Government of Pakistan in response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, where 26 people, including a Nepali national, were killed.
According to Indian media reports, the account has been made inaccessible across India as part of a series of strong retaliatory measures taken by the Indian government.
Account Withheld After Legal Request
Users in India attempting to access @GovtofPakistan are now shown a message stating that the account has been withheld in response to a legal demand. This move is seen as part of India’s strategy to counter what it claims is cross-border terrorism and state-sponsored propaganda.
Series of Swift Actions by India
In the wake of the April 22nd attack, India has taken several aggressive diplomatic and security steps:
-
Suspended the Indus Waters Treaty signed in 1960 under World Bank mediation,
-
Ordered Pakistani nationals in India to leave the country within 48 hours,
-
Revoked all Pakistani visas, and
-
Directed the expulsion of senior Pakistani diplomats, reducing the Pakistani High Commission staff from 55 to 30.
A Devastating Attack in Pahalgam
The attack targeted tourists in the scenic Baisaran Valley, making it the worst civilian massacre in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Militants affiliated with the group Kashmir Resistance opened fire on civilians, killing 26 and injuring over 20 others.
Among the deceased was Sudip Nyaupane from Butwal, Nepal.
India’s intelligence agencies suspect the involvement of Lashkar-e-Taiba’s proxy, The Resistance Front (TRF). Three suspects—Asif Fauji, Suleman Shah, and Abu Talha—have been identified and sketches released.
Diplomatic Fallout Deepens
India has accused Pakistan of harboring and supporting terrorist outfits, while Pakistan has denied any involvement. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reportedly convened a high-level security meeting in response to India’s retaliatory actions.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a strongly worded statement, vowed “unimaginable consequences” for those responsible for the massacre.
