India Blocks Pakistan X Account After Pahalgam Attack
Tensions escalate as India suspends Indus Waters Treaty and expels top Pakistani diplomats

Kathmandu – India has blocked the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Government of Pakistan following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives, including a Nepali national, Sudip Nyaupane from Butwal.
Account Withheld After Legal Request
Users in India attempting to access @GovtofPakistan are now shown a message stating that the account has been withheld due to a legal demand. This measure is part of India’s strategy to counter cross-border terrorism and state-sponsored propaganda.
Series of Swift Actions by India
Following the April 22 attack, India has undertaken several retaliatory measures:
-
Suspended the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 under World Bank mediation,
-
Ordered Pakistani nationals in India to leave within 48 hours,
-
Revoked all Pakistani visas, and
-
Reduced the Pakistani High Commission staff from 55 to 30.
A Devastating Attack in Pahalgam
The attack targeted tourists in Baisaran Valley and is the worst civilian massacre in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Militants affiliated with Kashmir Resistance opened fire, killing 26 and injuring over 20. Indian intelligence suspects Lashkar-e-Taiba’s proxy, The Resistance Front (TRF), and has released sketches of three suspects: Asif Fauji, Suleman Shah, and Abu Talha.
Diplomatic Fallout Deepens
India has accused Pakistan of supporting terrorist outfits, while Pakistan denies involvement. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened a high-level security meeting in response. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed “unimaginable consequences” for the perpetrators.
