Kathmandu: Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has strongly criticized the government for its handling of the ongoing teachers’ protest in Nepal. Speaking during the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected members of Press Center Nepal, Prachanda accused the government of being unprepared and insensitive towards the concerns of teachers.

Government “Humiliating” Teachers, Says Prachanda

Prachanda alleged that the government is “shamelessly humiliating” the teachers by ignoring their legitimate demands.

“The agreements made with the teachers must be honored by enacting the necessary laws, and it must be done swiftly,” he said.

He added that despite a court order directing the government to address the teachers’ grievances, the authorities seem unwilling to act.

Teachers’ Protest and Political Implications

The teachers’ movement has created a serious political and social challenge in Nepal. Teachers have been demanding proper laws to safeguard their rights, salary adjustments, and job security. The prolonged strike has also disrupted school operations, leaving thousands of students without classes.

According to education experts, unresolved protests risk harming Nepal’s already struggling public education system. Prachanda emphasized that the government must act responsibly to prevent a deeper crisis.

Call for Political Responsibility

Prachanda urged his party and other political stakeholders to step in and help resolve the crisis.

“We must also fulfill our responsibility to ease the country’s difficult political situation through the streets, the Parliament, and other fronts,” he stated.

What Happens Next?

With rising pressure from teachers and political leaders, the government may face tougher negotiations in the coming weeks. Analysts suggest that ignoring the protest could weaken public trust in the education sector and worsen Nepal’s governance challenges.

For now, the teachers’ protest in Nepal remains a pressing issue, and Prachanda’s remarks add further weight to the demand for urgent government action.
