Kathmandu: Keshar Bahadur Bista, Chairman of Rastriya Shakti Nepal and a former Panchayat-era leader, has remarked that Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” would not have existed without the monarchy.

Speaking at a gathering organized by Rastriya Prajatantra Nepal in Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu, on Monday, Bista warned that Prachanda should be mindful of his history. “If there had been no king, there would be no Prachanda today,” he said, adding, “Unlike Prachanda, the king did not go around killing people wherever he pleased.”

Bista Criticizes Army’s Role During Civil War

Bista also alleged that during the civil war, the Nepalese Army missed multiple opportunities to capture Prachanda. He claimed that bombs were dropped on houses Prachanda had left just an hour earlier, allowing him to escape several times.

“The army would strike the house an hour after Prachanda left,” Bista said. “It happened repeatedly. Either the army missed by mistake or it allowed him to escape. That’s why Prachanda is still alive today.”

He concluded by challenging Prachanda to reflect on how he survived those times, implying that his existence owes much to fortunate circumstances.
