Constitutional Council Amendment Nepal Approved by National Assembly

Kathmandu: The National Assembly unanimously approved the Constitutional Council Amendment Nepal bill. The House of Representatives had previously passed the bill, and Minister for Communication and IT Prithvi Subba Gurung tabled it on behalf of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal confirmed the unanimous decision during Sunday’s session.
Key Provisions of the Constitutional Council Amendment Nepal
Minister Gurung explained that the amendment allows the Constitutional Council to make decisions if at least 50% of active members are present. This addresses situations where full attendance is not possible.

Clause 6 requires the council to reconvene if quorum or consensus is not met.

Afterwards, decisions can proceed with the chairperson and at least half of the sitting members.

Clause 7 defines the decision-making process when full participation is absent.
Overall, the amendment ensures that the council remains functional while maintaining proper governance.
