MP Shishir Khanal Urges Nepal to Act Amid Kashmir Terror Attack Fallout
MP Shishir Khanal condemns the Kashmir attack and urges Nepal to act on regional security and protect its citizens abroad.
Kathmandu, May 9 — In a strong parliamentary statement, Member of Parliament Shishir Khanal condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 people, including one Nepali citizen. Khanal emphasized that “terrorism benefits no one” and expressed solidarity with the victims.
Highlighting the rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the attack, Khanal underscored Nepal’s responsibility—both as a neighbor and as the current SAARC chair—to take a proactive stance in promoting peace and stability in the region.
He welcomed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ late but clear position against terrorism and called for a thorough assessment of potential impacts on Nepal, including national security, economic supply chains, and the wellbeing of Nepalese citizens in the region.
Khanal also drew urgent attention to the situation of 80 Nepali students currently studying in Pakistan, who have reportedly requested evacuation. He urged the government to take immediate steps to ensure their safety.
