Kathmandu: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, has drawn the government’s attention to the safety of Nepali citizens residing in India and Pakistan, amid rising tensions between the two countries.
During Friday’s parliamentary session, Speaker Ghimire emphasized the need for the government to remain alert and take necessary measures to safeguard Nepalis abroad, particularly in light of the deteriorating situation between India and Pakistan.
Several lawmakers also raised concerns during the session, warning that the geopolitical strain between the two nuclear-armed neighbors could have direct or indirect implications for Nepal. They urged the government to begin preparations to address any potential fallout.
Speaker Ghimire also read aloud a letter from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers regarding additional responsibilities assigned to the government.
Meanwhile, discussion on the government’s Annual Policy and Program for Fiscal Year 2082/83 is currently ongoing in the House of Representatives.
