UML Secretariat Finalizes ‘Communist Warrior Honors’ Recipients, Dismisses Prachanda’s Government Change Remarks

Kathmandu: The Secretariat meeting of the CPN (UML), held at the party headquarters in Chyasal on Monday, discussed key issues related to internal party affairs and national politics, according to Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali.
One of the major decisions made during the meeting was to honor seven individuals with the Communist Warrior Honor on the occasion of the party’s 76th anniversary, which will be celebrated on Baisakh 9 (April 21). The party aims to mark the 77th year of its establishment with grandeur, reaffirming its commitment to revitalizing the Nepali communist movement with new energy, strength, and direction.
2025 Communist Warrior Honor Recipients:
-
Lal Bahadur Bishwakarma – Kanchanpur
-
Ratna Sharma Nyaupane – Jajarkot
-
Shobharam Basnet – Dang
-
Bachaspati Devkota – Gorkha
-
Shanta Manavi – Kathmandu
-
Satyanarayan Mandal – Saptari
-
Haricharan Sibakoti – Jhapa
“These individuals have made significant contributions to the communist movement, and we are proud to recognize their dedication,” Gyawali stated.
In the same meeting, the UML rejected recent remarks made by Maoist Centre Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ during a New Year program in Chitwan, where he hinted at a possible change in government.
“Prachanda’s comments reflect frustration from being outside the government. There is neither relevance nor justification for a government change right now,” said Gyawali, adding that such remarks are merely an expression of power hunger and an attempt to mislead the public.
He further emphasized that while constructive suggestions for better performance are welcome, attempts to exploit minor weaknesses to topple the system or the government are destabilizing and bound to fail.
